OS X (formally known as Mac OS X) is an Operating System designed and marketed by Apple. OS X only runs on Macintosh computers.

OS X is a UNIX-like operating system that originally ran on PowerPC-based Macs. In 2006, the first Intel Macs had a specialized version of Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger”. in 2007, Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard”, was the first to have UNIX 03 certification and run on both PowerPC and Intel Macs with the use of Universal Binaries. Mac OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard” was the first version of OS X to drop support for PowerPC Macs and run solely on Intel’s x86-based processors.

Releases of OS X are named after big cats.

Apple’s new operating system, “Lion” will be launched at a developers conference in San Francisco on June 6. As per the details on the Apple website the OS version looks promising. It stats that Apple is bringing the best thinking from iPad and putting it to work in Mac OS X Lion. A sneak peek of the this eighth major OS release was given by Apple in October, 2010 at California which was followed by a developer preview on February 24, 2011.
Top features of the OS includes The Mac App Store, Launchpad – A home for your apps, Full-screen apps, Mission Control, Gestures and animations, Auto Save, Versions, Resume, Mail 5, AirDrop, All-new FileVault & Lion Server…

Facebook chat on iChat

Do you chat a lot of Facebook and is chatting on the browser just not comfortable for you! Well now you can signing to Facebook chat using iChat on your mac. Here is how to do it.

Open iChat, then select iChat » Preferences and click on the Accounts tab.
Click on the + (plus) sign to add a new account, with these settings:
Account Type is Jabber Account
Account name is your_user@chat.facebook.com, and enter your password
Click the drop-down arrow to reveal Server options. Enter chat.facebook.com as the server name.
Enter 5222 as the port and click Done.

UltraCopy – A TeraCopy alternative for Mac

In our day-to-day on computer we move many files and folders. Copying single files or folder is not a problem. The problem arises when the data to be moved is very large in number (files) and / or size.

If you are a PC user you must have used or heard about TeraCopy. Its a software used to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, providing the user with a lot of features like pause / resume, error recovery and lots more.

And if you are a Mac user you can find a software called UltraCopy which does the same work as TeraCopy. You can use it to transfer huge data files from one Mac to another over a network or form your Mac to your external hard disk.

Features of UltraCopy

Ultracopier is faster than a lot of default system tools. It provides many advanced features: Starting/resuming the copy process, speed limitation, searching in the copy list, etc.

Anticipates internal and external errors. Gives detailed information about the error and suggests several methods to treat it.

Multiple options are available in order to manage file collisions: always overwrite, overwrite if newer, etc. Provides information about source and destination

Epic Mobile Battle Again – Apple & Google

The next battle in the epic was between the Apple and Google is about to begin with Apple unveiling its iAds feature some time back that, for the first time will allow advertisers to put their ads near apps made specifically for iPhone and iPad. Apple already sold $60 million worth of iAds to companies like Disney, Unilever PLC, Missan Co, Citigroup Inc.

Apple Inc. is facing some early challenges, with some ad campaigns experiencing delays as agencies attempt to learn the new system and Apple’s tight control over the creative process. Part of the reason some marketers are experiencing delays in getting their iAds to market is that Apple has kept tight control on the creative aspects of ad-making, something advertisers aren’t used to. It also also made the creation of the mobile ads laborious, taking about 8 to 10 weeks from brainstorming to completion, which is longer than normal for most mobile ads. With Apple handling the production of the ad unit, agencies don’t necessarily know what it is capable of or how to use the technology. The iAds is designed in HTML5 technology, and Apple has yet to distribute a developer kit to agencies so they can understand how it works.

Competition is increasing as other mobile ad companies like Millennial Media and Google start to offer similar services. While Apple plans to pass on 60% of the revenue generated to developers, Google has hinted at a 50:50 sharing approach. iAds may be expensive for the advertisers, with packages starting at $1 million, it also offers them new targeting and interactive elements. Who will win this epic battle still is some distance away but innovation, creativity and better IT and Communication choices is making consumers emerge the ultimate winner.
